What it costs

Free for students. Flat for schools. Tiered for districts.

Books, games, and K–12 practice are free for every student — zero in-app purchases in the school product. Schools and districts pay only for school-side features: teacher-led lessons, Grow assessment, dashboards, MTSS, and equity reporting. Parents on home accounts can subscribe to Family Plus ($9.99/year) for the assessment readout and progress detail; their child’s view never changes.

No in-app purchases in the school product:When a student signs in via a school roster, the app shows zero subscribe buttons, zero lock symbols, and zero ads — books, games, practice, and cosmetics are all free. The school or district is the buyer; the student is never marketed to. (The separate Family Plus consumer subscription described below is only visible to parents on personal/home accounts.)
For parents on personal accounts: Books, games, and practice are free for every child. Family Plus is a separate $9.99/year consumer subscription that gives a parent the assessment readout, lessons library, and skill-by-skill progress detail for their child. Stripe-administered, cancel anytime, no trial. The subscribe button lives quietly on the player’s stats screen so a parent can find it; children never see it on a school-rostered account.
Procurement: We accept purchase orders with net-30 invoicing and ACH. No payment card data is collected, processed, or stored — billing is arranged via direct invoice.

What the school/district license covers

Core practice is free for every student. The per-student license unlocks premium features that require school-level infrastructure:

Learning games
Curriculum-aligned games with embedded math practice — Sky Jump, Math Maze, Fraction Kitchen, and more. Students play while practicing the skills they need most.
Digital library
100+ leveled books across every grade band with built-in dictionary and comprehension questions.
Teacher-led lessons
270 5-phase lesson plans that automatically sync with student needs. Live monitoring shows who's stuck, auto-remediation steps students down (concrete → visual → symbolic), and exit tickets score themselves.
Grow assessment
Research-informed adaptive placement across 3 windows per year. Same CAT architecture as iReady and MAP Growth, with two pre-registration analysis-plan drafts deposited at OSF — a concurrent-validity study (Grow vs. SOL, NWEA MAP Growth, iReady, ORF, and teacher judgment) and a practice-engagement-and-growth correlation study — both targeted for formal Registration (locked, DOI-minted) in July / September 2026 after academic methodologist review and before any pilot data flows. Empirical IRT calibration follows the spring 2028 district pilot, when cumulative sample size first supports defensible parameter estimation. Testing stops as soon as it has enough info, flags students who are rushing, and tracks growth over time — typically 20 minutes instead of 45.
Teacher dashboards
Progress monitoring, per-question analysis to see exactly where reteaching is needed, test creation, class goals, and PDF/CSV reports.
Compliance + rostering
District-signed DPAs, FERPA & COPPA alignment, ClassLink SSO + roster sync. Clever Library certification in progress; Google and Apple sign-in available today.
MTSS + equity
Automatically group students by support level (Tier 1/2/3), track interventions, surface extension activities for advanced learners, and get alerts when subgroups fall behind — built-in MTSS workflow with equity dashboards.

Frequently asked

Is Potato Class really free?
Yes. Books, games, all math and reading practice (K-12), all cosmetics and skins, adaptive difficulty, and progress tracking are completely free for every student. The school product has zero in-app purchases — students see no subscribe buttons, no lock symbols, and no ads. Schools and districts pay only for school-side features like teacher-led lessons, Grow assessment, teacher dashboards, MTSS, and equity reporting.
Is there a separate consumer subscription for parents?
Yes — Family Plus is a $9.99/year consumer subscription for parents on personal/home accounts. It gives the parent the assessment readout, lessons library, and skill-by-skill progress detail for their child. Stripe-administered, cancel anytime, no trial. The subscribe button is only visible on personal accounts; children on school-rostered accounts never see it.
How is the per-student rate calculated?
We count enrolled students in the roster, not concurrent users. Schools pay a flat $15/student/year regardless of size. Districts pay $12/student/year, dropping to $9/student/year at 10,000+ students. 25,000+ students receive a custom enterprise quote.
What does implementation look like?
We roster your teachers and students via Clever or ClassLink (typically same-day), run a launch PD session, and hand off a getting-started guide. Most districts go live in 1-2 weeks.
Do you sign district-specific DPAs?
Yes. We'll sign your state's Student Data Privacy Agreement (SDPC) or a district-specific DPA. We are COPPA and FERPA aligned and do not sell student data.
Is there a pilot option?
Yes. We run semester-long pilots at the school level with a reduced rate and success-metric reporting. Contact partnerships@growingstandard.com to set one up.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept purchase orders with net-30 invoicing and ACH bank transfer. Districts typically pay by PO — send us your purchase order and we'll issue an invoice. No payment card data is collected, processed, or stored by Growing Standard.
How does Growing Standard relate to Potato Class?
Potato Class is the student-facing product. Growing Standard LLC is the company that builds, sells, and supports it for schools and districts.
