Getting Started

How do I create an account?

You can use Potato Class without an account — just start playing! To save your progress across devices, sign in with Google, Apple, or Clever from the welcome screen or Settings.

What grade levels does Potato Class cover?

Potato Class covers math from Kindergarten through High School, aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL). The app adapts to your grade level and skill level through an initial assessment.

How does the placement assessment work?

When you first start, you pick your grade level and take a short 5-question assessment. Based on your performance, the app may adjust your level up or down to find the right fit. You can retake the assessment at any time from the Practice tab.

Account & Sign-In

How do I sign in with Clever?

If your school uses Clever, click “Log in with Clever” on the welcome screen or in Settings. You’ll be redirected to Clever’s login page where you can use your school credentials. Your progress will sync automatically.

Can I switch between devices?

Yes! Sign in with the same account (Google, Apple, or Clever) on any device and your progress, stars, accessories, and settings will sync automatically.

What happens if I use the app without signing in?

You can use all core features anonymously. Your data is stored locally in your browser. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your progress won’t transfer. Sign in anytime to start syncing.

Practice & Learning

What are stars and how do I earn them?

Stars are earned by answering questions correctly. You earn 1 star per correct answer (or more during special modes). Stars can be spent in the Shop to unlock accessories, pets, and cosmetics for your potato character.

What is Lightning Mode?

Lightning Mode is a fast-paced timed challenge where you answer as many questions as possible before time runs out. It’s great for building fluency and speed with math facts.

How do hints work?

When you’re stuck on a question, tap the hint button (lightbulb icon). Hints reveal step-by-step guidance. Each hint step costs 1 star, and the final step shows the answer. You won’t earn a star for that question if you use a hint.

Who is AiPa?

AiPa (pronounced “eye-puh”) is your AI potato assistant! AiPa provides encouragement, reads questions aloud, and offers math guidance using voice. All of AiPa’s speech is pre-written educational content — no student data is ever sent to AI services.

Classroom & Teachers

How do I set up a classroom?

Sign in and go to the Class tab. Create a class with a unique class code. Share the code with students — they enter it in their Class tab to join. You can view student progress, assign practice, and manage your class from there.

What is Teacher Pro?

Teacher Pro is an optional one-time upgrade ($9.99) that unlocks advanced classroom features including detailed student analytics, custom assignments, assessments, and class management tools.

Can students join via Clever?

Yes! Students can sign in with their Clever credentials and join your class using the class code. Their progress will sync automatically across sessions.

Troubleshooting

The app isn’t loading or is stuck

Try refreshing the page (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R). If the issue persists, clear your browser cache and try again. Potato Class works best in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.

I can’t hear AiPa’s voice

Make sure your device volume is up and not muted. Check that AiPa voice is enabled in Settings (look for the voice toggle). Some browsers may block audio until you interact with the page — tap or click anywhere first.

My progress disappeared

If you were using the app without signing in, your data was stored locally in the browser. Clearing browser data removes it. If you were signed in, try signing in again — your progress should sync back. You can also check Settings → Data → Restore Progress if data was recently deleted.

I accidentally deleted my progress

Don’t worry! Deleted progress is recoverable for 30 days. Go to Settings → Data → “Restore Progress” to recover your data. After 30 days, deleted data is permanently removed.

Data & Privacy

How is my child’s data protected?

Potato Class is COPPA and FERPA compliant. We collect only the minimum data needed for the educational experience. We don’t use advertising, tracking pixels, or sell data. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. See our full Privacy Policy for details.

How do I delete my data?

Go to Settings → Data → “Delete All Progress Data.” This removes all progress, stars, and accessories. Data is held in a recovery state for 30 days, then permanently deleted. You can also email privacy@potatoclass.com to request account deletion.

Does AiPa collect or send student data?

No. AiPa speaks pre-written educational content only. No student-generated text, names, or personal information is sent to any external service. Speech is synthesized from developer-written scripts using a text-to-speech API.
