You can use Potato Class without an account — just start playing! To save your progress across devices, sign in with Google or Apple from the welcome screen or Settings. Students in a rostered class can also enter with a class code or a teacher-printed badge card.

Potato Class covers math and reading from Kindergarten through High School. Teachers and parents pick their state, and every skill is labeled with that state's standards. The app adapts to your grade level and skill level through an initial assessment.

When you first start, you pick your grade level. The Grow is a short adaptive assessment that your teacher (or, at home, a parent) launches for you: when it’s time, a Take the Grow card appears in the app and you tap Go. Based on your performance, the app may adjust your level up or down to find the right fit.

Teachers and staff sign in with Google or Apple using their school account. Students sign in the same way, or — if they have no school email — with a class code, a teacher-printed badge card, or a secret number.

Yes! Sign in with the same account (Google or Apple) on any device and your progress, stars, accessories, and settings will sync automatically.

You can use all core features anonymously. Your data is stored locally in your browser. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your progress won’t transfer. To back it up or move it, open Settings and choose Back up my progress, then Restore from backup on the other device. Sign in anytime to start syncing.

Stars are earned by answering questions correctly. You earn 1 star per correct answer (or more during special modes). Stars can be spent in the Shop to unlock accessories, pets, and cosmetics for your potato character.

Step-by-step hints open skill by skill as each one is finished. Where a skill’s hints are ready, the hint button (lightbulb icon) beside each question opens them; elsewhere it reads Coming soon for now. Where a skill’s tutorial is ready, the book icon beside the question opens it (How to do this), and a class test’s Study guide shows which of its skills have one. Reading a tutorial is always free — it never costs stars.

AiPa (pronounced “eye-puh”) is your potato assistant character! AiPa provides encouragement, reads questions aloud, and offers math guidance using voice. All of AiPa’s speech is pre-written educational content. A greeting may include a student’s first name — never a surname, and never any answers, responses, or performance data.

Sign in and go to the Class tab. Create a class with a unique class code. Share the code with students — they enter it in their Class tab to join. You can view student progress, assign practice, and manage your class from there.

Schools and districts with a license get full access to teacher features including detailed student analytics, custom assignments, assessments, class management tools, needs-attention alerts with small-group intervention tools, and PDF/CSV reports. Potato Class is free for students; the school product has no in-app purchases.

Students sign in with Google or Apple and join your class with the class code, or enter with a teacher-printed badge card or secret number if they don’t have a school sign-in. Progress syncs automatically across sessions.

A student who presses Play without signing in plays as a guest. Their potato is saved only in that browser on that device, and nothing is saved to our servers. App updates never erase it. To keep it safe:

• Use the same device and the same browser every time.
• Don’t use Chromebook Guest mode or a private (incognito) window. Both erase everything when they close.
• In Safari, visit at least once a week. Safari can clear a website’s saved data after 7 days without a visit.
• Don’t press Log out. For a guest, it removes the potato from the device.
• To back up a potato or move it to another device, open Settings and choose Back up my progress, then Restore from backup on the other device.

Try refreshing the page (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R). If the issue persists, clear your browser cache and try again. Potato Class works best in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.

Make sure your device volume is up and not muted. Check that AiPa voice is enabled in Settings (look for the voice toggle). Some browsers may block audio until you interact with the page — tap or click anywhere first.

If you were using the app without signing in, your data was stored locally in the browser. Clearing browser data removes it. If you were signed in, try signing in again — your progress should sync back. You can also check Settings → Data → Restore Progress if data was recently deleted.

Don’t worry! Deleted progress is recoverable for 30 days. Go to Settings → Data → “Restore Progress” to recover your data. After 30 days, deleted data is permanently removed.

Potato Class is COPPA- and FERPA-aligned. We collect only the minimum data needed for the educational experience. We don’t use advertising, tracking pixels, or sell data. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. See our full Privacy Policy for details.

Go to Settings → Data → “Delete All Progress Data.” This removes all progress, stars, and accessories. Data is held in a recovery state for 30 days, then permanently deleted. If your account is managed by a school, contact your teacher or administrator to request deletion. You can also email privacy@potatoclass.com to request account deletion.

AiPa speaks pre-written educational content only — no student-generated text, no answers or responses, and no performance data is ever sent to any external service. Speech is synthesized from developer-written scripts using a text-to-speech API; a greeting phrase may include a student’s first name (or a signed-in adult account-holder’s display name) — never a student’s surname.
